My Family Puppets

My Family Puppets

[20 Minutes]

Take family photos and transform them into manipulative puppets that will bring joy to your child.

You'll need:

• family photos or photocopies • wooden craft sticks • tape • scissors (ADULT USE ONLY)

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to choose photos of several family members. Name them and their relationship to your child.
  2. Together tape craft sticks to the back of each cut-out photograph.
  3. Help her to use the puppets to interact with each other by movement and talking.
  4. As you pretend play with the puppets, sing this song together. (Tune: "Frere Jacques"):
We are special, we are special.
Look at us, look at us.
We are family puppets, we are family puppets.
Play, play, play; play, play, play.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How many family members do we have? Let's talk about them.
  • Who is the youngest? Oldest?
  • Do you find playing with these puppets fun? Why?
