Fruity Clown Faces

Fruity Clown Faces

[20 Minutes]

Good nutrition should be an important part of a child's learning process. Encourage your child to try new foods by creating faces or designs with cut fruit pieces.

You'll need:

• bananas, raisins, apples, kiwi, oranges • peanut butter • rice cake • plastic knife

What to do:

  1. Encourage your child to help you peel the banana. Cut it into circles.
  2. Cut apples into wedges and peel oranges into segments.
  3. Help your child to spread the peanut butter with a plastic knife onto a rice cake.
  4. Encourage him to use the cut-up fruit to make a clown face. Use the banana circles and raisins for the eyes and the apple wedge or orange section for a mouth.
  5. Make two and eat these together as a snack.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Look at the clown we made. Is it a funny face?
  • What was your favorite thing to eat?
  • What fruit would you like to use next time?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing small muscle skills, eye/hand coordination, and an introduction to good nutrition.
