Leprechauns for Me
[20 Minutes]
You and your child can create a "wee" leprechaun sculpture with a few materials from your home art box!
You'll need:
cardboard egg cartons safety scissors crayons or markers empty thread spools or small boxes green yarn glue
What to do:
- Help your child cut out two egg carton cups.
- Invite him to glue one on top of the other creating a head and a hat.
- Encourage your child to draw facial features on the bottom cup using crayons or markers.
- He might glue some green yarn on top for the leprechaun's hair.
- Let your child choose a spool or small box for the body and glue the head on top.
- Let your child decorate the body as he wishes. Your "wee" leprechaun sculpture is now complete.
How to use:
- Take a few moments to read a book about leprechauns with your child.
- This is also the perfect time to sing the Leprechaun Song together. (Tune:"Where Is Thumbkin?"):
Where's the Leprechaun? Where's the Leprechaun? Hiding his gold, hiding his gold, In a great big pot, in a great big pot, Near the rainbow, near the rainbow.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- Can you give your leprechaun a name?
- What else could we make with egg cartons and spools?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child is developing creativity and language skills.
