Magic Easter Egg Picture

Magic Easter Egg Picture

[20 Minutes]

Amaze your child with this holiday art project! Magical Easter eggs will appear as you paint!

You'll need:

• chunks of paraffin wax or white crayon • white paper • scissors (ADULT USE ONLY) • tape • cotton swab • paintbrush • brown paper • purple food coloring--diluted with water

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to draw egg shapes on white paper with paraffin wax chunks or white crayon. (Shapes will be almost invisible.)
  2. Using a cotton swab or paintbrush, encourage her to wash diluted purple food coloring over the entire paper. Let it dry thoroughly.
  3. Frame the picture by cutting out a basket shape in the middle of the brown paper.
  4. Finally, tape the egg painting to the back of the brown paper so that the eggs appear to be sitting in the basket.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What appears on the white paper when you paint it with food colors?
  • Can you think of another magic picture to make? What shapes would you draw?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and an understanding of cause and effect.
