Leprechaun Marching Song

Leprechaun Marching Song

[20 Minutes]

The Irish culture is famous for music and humor. Songs help children to develop memory skills, motor development and to have fun!

You'll need:

• spoons • empty cylindrical containers such as oatmeal or cornmeal

How to use:

  1. Teach your child this song: Tune "When the Saints Go Marching In"
    The leprechauns are marching by,
Oh! see them lift their hats up high,
See them wave and sing and be happy,
    Leprechauns are marching by.
  2. While your child is learning the words, march around the room together.
  3. Encourage him to lift a pretend hat, wave, sing and look happy as directed by the words of the song.
  4. Invite your child to use spoons and containers as musical instruments for the band.
  5. Let him tap spoons together or use as drum sticks.
  6. As an extended activity, invite your child to paint the drums green or cover with paper and draw shamrocks or leprechaun faces on them. Holiday stickers can be used too.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
