A Block Puzzle

A Block Puzzle

[15 Minutes]

Blocks aren't just for building! Try this easy-to-make, 3-D puzzle, to help your child learn about shapes.

You'll need:

• a set number of blocks of different shapes and sizes • cardboard • marker

What to do:

  1. Arrange several blocks of different sizes and shapes so that they cover the piece of cardboard. Trace around each block with a marker to form an outline of the block's shape on the cardboard.
  2. Remove the blocks from the cardboard.

How to play:

  1. Give the blocks, one at a time, to your child and challenge her to put each one on the correct space, until she has completed the entire puzzle.
  2. Encourage her to name each shape as she places it on its outline.
  3. Add more shapes (blocks).

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What are the shapes you see on the cardboard?
  • How did you know where to place the blocks?
  • Let's build something with these blocks.

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop math skills and problem-solving skills.
