Funky Frisbee

Funky Frisbee

[20 Minutes]

Pick a park or a clear area in your grassy back yard or a near-by park and spend some funky time in the great outdoors twisting, turning jumping and tossing the Frisbee back and forth. And don’t forget to catch it – between the legs, back-wards, with your foot? See how much fun you can have getting plenty of fresh air, exercise and belly bustin’ laughs as your try to “Funky Frisbee”.

You'll need:

• 1 Frisbee • an open grassy area (pavement is fine – but be careful if you fall doing all your funky moves!)

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child.
  2. Together, with your child, gather everything you’ll need.
  3. Explain to your child that the object of the activity is to toss the Frisbee back and forth using funky and creative moves – both catching and throwing.

How to play:

  1. Together, pick your area – try to keep the sun out of your eyes if possible. Make sure to pick an area well away from road traffic or large bodies of water where you may lose the Frisbee.
  2. Let your child experiment with his first throw. Does it fly right? If not – try to make the adjustments needed to make it travel evenly and as accurately as possible. Can you catch it? If so create a funky way to catch it!
  3. Now you can experiment with your throw, making adjustments as needed. Encourage your child to create his own special way of catching your throw once the move has been mastered!
  4. Each of you can practice throwing and catching doing all of the silliest most outrageous moves you can think of!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What was the hardest way to throw?
  • Which was the easiest?
  • Can you catch it with your bare foot?
