Volleyball Skills at the Beach

Volleyball Skills at the Beach

[15 Minutes]

Enjoy playing this volleyball game at the beach or anywhere. The object of the game is to see how many times two people can hit the ball in the air before it hits the ground. This game will help increase skills in setting, bumping, serving, overhand passing and underhand passing.

You'll need:

• beach ball

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child before you begin.
  2. You are player number 1 and your child is player number 2. But you are a team.
  3. Explain to your child that a player cannot hit the beach ball again until the other player has hit it.
  4. It does not matter how you strike the ball.

How to play:

  1. Start the game by hitting the ball into the air and call out, "One."
  2. Then your child hits the ball and calls out, "Two."
  3. It is now your turn to hit the ball and call out, "Three."
  4. Continue alternating hitting the ball into the air. Any time the ball hits the ground, is touched by the wrong player (it is not his turn to hit the ball), or is caught, play stops and the score is given.
  5. The challenge is to beat your own score.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Should we play this game at home or at the beach?
  • How do you hit the ball to keep it in the air?
  • What other game could we play with the beach ball?
