Tennis Knockout

Tennis Knockout

[15 Minutes]

The object of the game is to be last player remaining at the end. This game will improve hitting and serving skills.

You'll need:

• tennis ball • tennis racquet • wall

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through together before you begin.
  2. Together, gather everything you’ll need.
  3. You are player 1 and your child is player 2.

How to play:

  1. To start, each player stands twenty feet away from the wall.
  2. Explain to your child that you will begin by dropping the ball and hitting it with the racquet against the wall and immediately moving out of her way.
  3. She moves up and keeps the ball in play and moves out of your way.
  4. You continue to do the same, and so on.
  5. Whenever either of you fails to hit the ball up against the wall or fails to make it playable to the next player, you receive the first letter in the word “k-n-o-c-k-o-u-t.”
  6. When a player has “k-n-o-c-k-o-u-t” spelled against her, she is out of the game.

Useful information:

My granddad showed me how to play this game. He is showing me lots of ways to improve my tennis game. I hope to try out for the tennis team in the fall. (Micaela, age 12)
