Roll the Dice
[30 Minutes]
You will enjoy playing this game of "chance." The object of the game is to score as many points as possible in five throws of the dice.
You'll need:
5 dice pencil and paper for scorekeeping
What to do:
- If possible, print out these directions. Read them through before you begin.
- Gather everything you’ll need.
- The total number of dots showing determines the score of each roll.
- Dice that land with two or five dots showing, however, score nothing.
- In addition, when a 2 or 5 is thrown, these dice must be set aside and not rolled again. For instance, if on the first roll a player gets 2, 3, 4, 4, and 5, he must eliminate the 2 and 5 from the next throw and from then on will have only three dice to roll.
How to play:
- Player 1 is given five throws of all five dice in which to score as many points as possible.
- He continues to roll the dice through the five rolls, adding together all dice that reveal one, three, four, and six spots and setting aside the 2’s and 5’s.
- Then player 2 rolls the dice.
- The scores are totaled and then the game continues with two more rounds.
- The player with the highest score at the end of the three rounds is the winner!
Useful information:
My Gramps and I play this game on rainy days when we can't go outside for his afternoon walk. We have tournaments and for some reason he usually wins! (Dana, age 13)
