Sandy Sand Candles

It is thought that indoor lighting began around 50,000 years ago when the Cro-Magnon man found a fiber wick and placed it in a hole that held animal fat. Make candles using sand molds and enjoy the warm glow.
You'll need:
containers, such as cake pans, pie tins, coffee cans, etc. wet sand candle wick paraffin wax food coloring old pot stove top
What to do:
- If possible, print out these directions. Read them through before you begin.
- Gather everything you'll need and always remember art safety.
- Fill the containers with wet sand. Press a hole into the sand - the size you want the candle.
- Ask an adult to help you melt the paraffin wax over low heat until the wax is liquid.
- Let the wax cool down to a warm temperature. Add food coloring to the wax.
- Carefully pour the wax into the sand mold and place the wick in the center of the candle.
- The wax will take a day to solidify.
- When it becomes hard, gently pull the candle out of the sand.
- Enjoy the warm glow of the candle.
