Aluminum Foil Sports Trophy for Father's Day
[30 Minutes]
Aluminum foil was developed in 1926 through a process of rolling aluminum. Commonly known as "tin foil," this packaging material has become a popular household item. Make sports trophies for Father's Day using this kitchen staple.
You'll need:
sheets of regular aluminum foil scrap piece of wood acrylic paints (ADULT SUPERVISION) paintbrush heavy paper marker stapler, tape, or glue gun and glue sticks
What to do:
- If possible, print out these directions. Read them through before you begin.
- Gather everything you’ll need and always remember art safety.
- Decide which type of sports figure you will create. You may wish to look at action pictures to observe the movements of sports figures.
- Make cuts in the foil between the arms, the legs, and the head area.
- Crumble up the foil and mold it into a sports figure.
- For example you might design a golfer, a basketball player, a skater, a skier, or football player.
- Use the block of wood as the base. Paint the wood with acrylic paints and let dry.
- Set the figure on the block of wood. Staple, tape, or glue it to keep it upright.
- Cut a small rectangle from the heavy paper and "engrave" the trophy. IF you are giving this to your father, think of a sport he likes and write an inscription on the cardboard.
- Glue the piece of cardboard to the wood base.
Useful information:
My grandfather used to play football for our high school. He was the star quarterback. My dad helped me make a model of a football player, we wrote "To the World's Greatest Grandfather and Quarterback." We gave this to him for Father's Day. (Todd, age 13)
