Mandarin Orange Salad

Mandarin Orange Salad

[15 Minutes]

Mandarin oranges are loose-skinned oranges that include several varieties. Their skins slip easily off the fruit. The most well known varieties are the tangerine and the satsuma. The tangerine has a sweet flesh, rough skin, and was named after the city Tangier in Morocco. The small Japanese satsuma is almost seedless and most commonly used in canned mandarin oranges. Add canned mandarin oranges to this refreshing fruity salad.

You'll need:

• 1 - 6 ounces (oz) pkg. orange gelatin • 1 cup boiling water • 1 pint orange sherbet • 1 - 8 ounces (oz) can crushed pineapple • 1 cup chopped pecans • lettuce • 1 cup miniature marshmallows • 1 - 11 ounces (oz) can mandarin oranges sliced • 1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through before you begin.
  2. Gather everything you’ll need and always remember cooking safety.
  3. Before handling food, be sure to wash your hands.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve gelatin in boiling water.
  5. Add orange sherbet and stir until melted.
  6. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  7. Spoon mixture into a glass bowl.
  8. Refrigerate until firm.
  9. Serve on top of lettuce leaves.

Useful information:

We take turns making dinner at my house. I made this "salad" for our one of our family dinners. It was very refreshing after a big pasta meal. My mom and grandmother wanted the recipe. (Sam, age 14)
