Marvelous Mud Pie

Marvelous Mud Pie

[40 Minutes]

It's spring-soon to be summer. Celebrate "mud season" by serving a slice of this homemade chocolate mud pie! Decorate with gummy worms for effect.

You'll need:

• 1 cup crushed chocolate cookies or chocolate graham crackers • 1/4 cup melted butter • 9-inch pie plate • rolling pin or wooden meat mallet • wooden spoon • mixing bowl • pint of chocolate ice cream • whipped cream (if you wish) • gummy worms (if you wish) • zip-locking bag • cutting board • measuring cups and spoons

What to do:

  1. Print out these directions and read them through before you begin.
  2. Gather everything you'll need.
  3. Always wash your hands before cooking.
  4. Place chocolate cookies or graham crackers in a plastic, zip-locking bag.
  5. On a cutting board, crush the cookies with a rolling pin or meat mallet. You could even use your fist.
  6. With an adult, melt the butter and carefully pour it into a separate bowl.
  7. Empty the crumbs into this bowl and stir the melted butter together.
  8. Use your fingers and press the mixture into the 9-inch pie plate until it covers the bottom. Freeze for 20 minutes.
  9. In a mixing bowl, slightly soften a pint of ice cream by stirring it with a wooden spoon.
  10. You can drop in a few gummy worms for fun.
  11. Spoon this concoction into the pie shell on top of the cookies.
  12. Top with a layer of whipped cream if you want.
  13. Freeze the pie for at least an hour before serving.
