Delicious Ice Cream Cake

Delicious Ice Cream Cake

[40 Minutes]

It is thought that ice cream originated in China around 2000 B.C. Ice cream was made in Italy in the 17th century and the ice cream industry began in the United States in the mid 1800's. There are many forms of ice cream. Ice cream enriched with egg yolks is French ice cream, nuts and fruits added to a mousse-like ice cream is spumoni, and ice cream sold as it comes out of the freezer is soft ice cream. Use your favorite flavor of ice cream to make this appetizing ice cream cake.

You'll need:

• 1 angel food or other type tube-shaped cake • 1 pint ice cream • 1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding • 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar • 1 cup cold milk • 1 - 8oz. container whipped topping • electric mixer (ADULT SUPERVISION) • knife (ADULT SUPERVISION)

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them together before you begin.
  2. Together, gather everything you’ll need and always remember cooking safety.
  3. Help your child cut off the top of 1/4 of the cake and save it for later.
  4. Cut a well in the cake leaving 1/2 inch all around.
  5. Let your child scoop out the cake with a spoon.
  6. Fill the well in the cake with scoops of ice cream.
  7. Replace the top on the cake.
  8. Together make frosting by mixing pudding, cold milk, and sugar. Beat 1 minute with an electric mixer.
  9. Let set for 2 minutes.
  10. Mix in the whipped topping.
  11. Frost the cake and place the cake in the freezer.

How to use:

Use this cake idea for many different holidays by coordinating flavors of ice cream with frosting colors. For example, strawberry ice cream and blue-tinted frosting make a great Fourth-of-July cake.

Useful information:

This cake is one of my favorites. It is really easy to make. My mom and I made one for my birthday party. Everyone loved it. (Ross, age 12)
