Sand Play Bingo
[30 Minutes]
Create a summer version of this favorite game. Bingo is loved by all ages! The object of this game is to match three in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
You'll need:
pieces of cardboard index cards ruler pen, markers, and crayons sea shells or pebbles
What to do:
- If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child.
- With your child, gather everything you'll need.
- Together with your child, make "bingo" boards. Using the ruler, create a grid of nine sections on each piece of cardboard.
- Invite your child to draw pictures of things you would see or use while playing in the sand (for example: shell, sun, sand toy, sand castle, bucket, shovel, umbrella, towel, sunglasses, waves).
- Let your child draw the items randomly in the squares on the grid, using the same pictures in different places on each piece of cardboard.
- Draw a picture of each item on an index card.
How to play:
- The next time you go to the beach, take along the bingo game.
- When it is time to play, hand out a bingo board to each player.
- Shuffle the index cards. One person calls out the name of an item on a card. If you can find the real item on the beach, everyone gets to place a shell or pebble on the picture on his/her board.
- Sand Bingo happens when someone gets three shells or pebbles in a row, diagonally, vertically, or horizontally.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What types of things do you find at the beach? Which items should we draw for our bingo board?
- Who would you like to be first, the caller of the player?
