Obstacle Course at the Beach

Obstacle Course at the Beach

[20 Minutes]

Create this challenging obstacle course while you are at the beach enjoying the ocean and the sun! The object of the game is to successfully complete the obstacle course in the shortest amount of time.

You'll need:

• beach towel • beach ball • a piece of wood • a bucket and shovel • watch

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child before you begin.
  2. Together with your child, gather everything you'll need.
  3. With your child, design your obstacle course. Here are some suggestions:
    Decide on a starting line.
Place the beach towel four feet from the starting line.
Place the beach ball three feet from the towel.
Place the piece of wood two feet from the ball.
Place the bucket and shovel three feet from the piece of wood.
Draw a finish line three feet from the bucket and shovel.

How to play:

  1. Your child is player 1 and you are player 2.
  2. You will time your child's performance.
  3. Explain that she will begin at the starting line. Then she will run to the beach towel and around it four times without touching the edge.
  4. Next she will run to the beach ball. She will then throw it in the air and catch it five times.
  5. Then she will go to the piece of wood and jump forward and backwards over it six times.
  6. Last but not least, she will run to the bucket and shovel, fill the bucket with sand and dump it out. She will repeat this two more times.
  7. To complete the course she will run as fast as she can to the finish line.
  8. When your child has completed the course, it is your turn. Show your child how to time your performance.
  9. To make the course harder, challenge yourselves to run up a sand dune or to the edge of the water without getting wet.
