Summer Listening Walk

Summer Listening Walk

[20 Minutes]

Are you ready for some fun with your child? Take a summer listening walk and both of you will appreciate the season even more!

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to walk with you outdoors and to listen for things that are signs of summer.
  2. Listen for the sounds of insects.
  3. Listen for the things people do in the summer.
  4. Listen for things people say in the summer.
  5. Listen for the sounds of summer workers.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What sounds did you hear? What or who made those sounds?
  • Do you think you hear these sounds only in the summer? Why or why not?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing observational skills and language skills. Taking walks develop the large muscles.
