The Sun Song

The Sun Song

[20 Minutes]

Sing a "special" song with your child that will teach him about night and day!

You'll need:

• flashlight • construction paper • tape • scissors • yellow balloon

What to do:

Invite your child to sing this song in the morning when he gets up and when he gets ready for bed at night. (Tune: "I'm A Little Teapot")

When the sun comes up, we start our day,
Dress and eat our breakfast, go outside and play,
When the day is over, the sun goes down,
Moon and stars light up the town.

How to use:

  1. In the morning, blow up a yellow balloon to represent the sun. Spend a couple minutes batting the "sun" balloon in the air. Giggle and be happy!
  2. At bedtime, introduce the use of flashlights. Cut stars and the moon from construction paper. Tape these on the ceiling of your child's room.
  3. When lying in bed and singing this song, gently move the flashlight's beam on the walls and ceiling.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What activities can you do when the sun is up?
  • When the sun is down?
  • What is the best part of the day? Morning? Night?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing thinking skills and language skills.
