Baked Fruit Desserts

Baked Fruit Desserts

[25 Minutes]

This sweet dessert works as well on your backyard grill as it does on a camping trip, and there's almost no clean up.

You'll need:

• 1 apple • 1 banana • 2 tbsp. mini-marshmallows • dash of cinnamon or cinnamon stick • 2 tbsp. chocolate chips • apple corer or sharp knife (ADULT USE ONLY) • aluminum foil • measuring spoons • a plastic knife • plastic spoons • campfire or grill

What to do:

  1. Core the apple.
  2. Invite your child to sprinkle on cinnamon or push a cinnamon stick through the apple.
  3. Help her wrap the apple in foil.
  4. Help your child to cut a wedge of banana open, leaving the peel intact.
  5. Invite her to stuff the opening with mini-marshmallows and chocolate chips and cover with the cut peel.
  6. Help her wrap the banana in foil.
  7. Place the wrapped apple and banana near coals or on a grill. Heat until the banana filling is melted and the apple is soft.
  8. Open the foil and eat with a spoon.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How is the fruit different after it was cooked? Do you prefer cooked or raw fruit?
  • What other fruits could we cook this way?
  • Where would you like to go camping?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and an understanding of cause and effect.
