Motorboat Game

Motorboat Game

[15 Minutes]

Playful interactions are at the heart of healthy relationships. Positive self concepts are built as you laugh and play together.

You'll need:

• blanket or sheet • motorboat rhyme

What to do:

  1. Help your child to lay in the middle of a sheet or blanket over a carpeted or soft surface.
  2. Take him on a motorboat ride with adults holding 2 sides of the sheet, making sure it's taut.
  3. Chant the motorboat rhyme as you sway the blanket back and forth. Begin slowly, then increase to the pleasure level of the child.
  4. Motorboat, motorboat, go so slow,
    Motorboat, motorboat, go so fast,
Motorboat, motorboat, step on the gas.
  5. Ask your child if a toy animal or doll would like to go for a motorboat ride. Help him give the doll a ride.

How to use:

This rhyme is also fun to do in a swimming pool. Hold your child in your arms or with arms extended out. As you say the rhyme, let him be the motorboat in the water.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Can you make some motorboat noises as we move?
  • Let's look at your bathtub toys. Do any of them make noises? Can you make them go fast and slow?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this game helps your child develop language skills and the use of large muscles.
