A Sand Fingerplay

A Sand Fingerplay

[15 Minutes]

This fingerplay will add to your child's enjoyment of play in the sand. Recite it for the entire family when you get home to remember the fun you had playing.

You'll need:

• sand • toy cars and trucks

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to play in the sand. Bring along a few toy cars and trucks.
  2. Recite and dramatize this fingerplay together as you play:
In the sand, I shovel and dig. (pretend to dig)
I make two holes very big. (hold up two fingers)
I make a tunnel between the two (make arch with arms)
For my cars and trucks to travel through.
Varoom!! (move hand quickly and make sounds)

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What kinds of toys do you like to play with in the sand?
  • Can you "drive" your cars through the sand? Is it easy or hard?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and language skills.
