Animal Alphabet

Animal Alphabet

[20 Minutes]

Challenge your child to create a zoo animal for every letter of the alphabet.

You'll need:

• construction paper • scraps of cut and torn paper (newspaper, tissue, wallpaper, gift wrap) • glue • scissors

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to choose a letter of the alphabet and create an animal using the paper scraps.
  2. Encourage her to glue the animal onto paper and write its name somewhere beside it.
  3. Challenge her to use the same beginning letter as the animal's name and write where the animal lives and what it eats. For example:
    Abboo
    It lives in Alaska.
    It eats ants.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Tell me about your animal.
  • Shall we put all these collages in a book? What will you title the book?
  • Is this a good way to learn the letters of the alphabet?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing reading and writing skills as well as creativity.
