Carrots and Dip!

Yogurt, also spelled yoghurt is a fermented milk product. The early inhabitants of Eastern Europe were probably the first to make a primitive from of yogurt. This occurred when the milk from their cows fermented in the heat. During the 1500's, yogurt was also used for medicinal purposes. Francois I was prescribed a type of yogurt to help his intestinal ailments. Yogurt is a healthy alternative to some high fat milk products. It is a good source of vitamin B, protein, and calcium. Use yogurt to add nutrition to this tasty dip.


You'll need:

• fresh cleaned carrot sticks • 1 cup plain yogurt • 1 cup mayonnaise • 1 Tbsp. dill weed • 1 tsp. salt • measuring cups and spoons • bowl • plastic spoon

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through before you begin.
  2. With your child, gather everything you'll need.
  3. Encourage your child to spoon the yogurt into the measuring cup and then put it into the bowl.
  4. Invite him to spoon the mayonnaise into the measuring cup and then put it into the bowl.
  5. Let him pour the dill weed and the salt into the measuring spoons. Together mix these ingredients into the bowl.
  6. Let him mix all of the ingredients together to make the dip.
  7. Then dip the carrots into the mixture.
  8. Enjoy sharing this snack together and talk about the different taste sensations.
