Quadriceps Stretch

Quadriceps Stretch

[5 Minutes]

The benefits of exercise are both physical and psychological. Studies have shown that regular exercise helps reduce the risk of many diseases and at the same time helps promote a general sense of well-being and positive self-esteem. Try this activity to stretch out the front thigh muscles. This is helpful after cycling, jogging, walking, or doing squats.

You'll need:

• a chair or something to hold onto

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through before you begin.
  2. Find something to hold onto for balance.
  3. Standing on one foot, bend the opposite knee so you can feel the stretch in the front of your thighs.
  4. Make sure your shoulders, hips, and knees are squared.
  5. Keep the leg you are standing on slightly bent.
  6. Hold for 10 seconds.
  7. Switch legs.
  8. As you get stronger, hold for 20 seconds.

Useful information:

My mom and I go for long walks together. When we get back home it really feels good to stretch out our legs. I like the stretching part as much as I like the walking. (Matt, age 13)
