My First Telescope

[20 Minutes]

Make this fun and easy telescope for you and your child to view stars!


You'll need:

• paper towel roll • tape • cellophane or plastic wrap • sticker stars • crayons

What to do:

  1. Save an empty paper towel tube.
  2. Invite your child to decorate the tube with crayons as he wishes.
  3. Tape clear cellophane or plastic wrap over the bottom end.
  4. Together, place colorful sticker stars on the plastic wrap.
  5. Encourage your child to look into the telescope. Talk about what you see. Talk about the colors.
  6. This is the perfect time to sing a traditional star song together.
    Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
    How I wonder what you are.
    Up above the world so high,
    Like a diamond in the sky.
    Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
    How I wonder what you are.
