Ball Go Round Painting
[20 Minutes]
Your child will be amazed at the delightful designs you can make with balls.
You'll need:
newspaper balls of different sizes (golf, ping-pong, tennis, marble) tempera paint pie tins large sheet of paper
What to do:
- Help your child pour a small amount of paint into a pie tin.
- Put newspapers down on the kitchen floor and lay a large sheet of paper on top of the newspapers.
- Encourage your child to dip a ball in the paint.
- Invite her to roll the ball across the paper to you.
- Roll the ball back to her.
- Encourage her to move and continue rolling the ball back and forth with you. Watch as a beautiful design appears. Comment upon the lines and direction the ball rolls. Where do the lines cross?
- Your child may want to add another color paint or to use a different type of ball to make the picture more interesting.
- Clean up with soap and water when finished.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- Tell me about the picture we made.
- Which ball made the prettiest design?
- What happened when the colors went over each other?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop eye/hand coordination, creativity, and an understanding of "cause and effect".
