[20 Minutes]

Reciting nursery rhymes is an age-old tradition that builds early language skills. Get your child interested by making this Humpty Dumpty that can be put together again and again.

You'll need:

• cardboard • markers • crayons • scissors • envelope

What to do:

  1. Cut a large (8" x 12") oval from cardboard.
  2. Talk with your child about the shape. Does it remind her of anything? Show her an egg.
  3. Teach your child the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
    Couldn't put Humpty together again.
  4. Invite your child to use markers to make the oval into Humpty Dumpty.
  5. Use scissors to cut the egg into 6 to 8 jigsaw pieces.
  6. Challenge your child to "put Humpty together again."
  7. Place pieces in an envelope for storage.
