[30 Minutes]
Invite your child to explore the season and then create a book to describe what she has seen, smelled, touched, heard, and tasted.
You'll need:
sheets of white paper crayons or markers stapler
What to do:
- Talk with your child about how people learn through their five senses and about how our senses help us explore winter.
- Take a walk outside and then create this poem when you come back inside.
- With your child complete each of the poem starter lines, writing each one on a separate sheet of paper.
Poem Starter: In winter.. I see... I hear... I smell... I taste... I touch...
- Invite your child to draw a picture for each line of the poem.
- Let her draw a picture of winter and write the word "winter" on a cover page. Then staple all the pages together.
How to use:
Read the book together. Then share it with family and friends.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What did you smell on our walk outside?
- What do you like to eat in the winter? How does it taste?
- What did you see on our winter walk?
- What type of different things do you think you would see on a summer walk?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child is developing observational skills and language skills which helps contribute to early literacy.
