Sewing Heart Shaped Cards
[20 Minutes]
Heart sewing cards help your child develop the small muscles of the hands while making a seasonal decoration for your home.
You'll need:
cardboard pencil scissors yarn scotch tape paper hole punch plastic craft needle (OPTIONAL)
What to do:
- Draw the outline of a heart on a piece of cardboard.
- Cut out the heart.
- Help your child use a paper hole punch to make holes around the edge of the heart.
- Wrap the end of a piece of yarn with scotch tape to make a "tip".
- Help your child push the yarn through the first hole and attach the end of the yarn on the back of the cardboard with tape.
- Encourage him to continue "sewing" around the heart outline. When finished, attach the end of the yarn on the back with tape.
- Punch a hole in the top and thread a piece of yarn through for a hanger if you wish.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What other shapes could we make on our sewing cards?
- What other things do people make by sewing? (clothes, shoes, curtains)
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child is developing small muscle skills and eye/hand coordination.
