Gift Lid Matching Game

Gift Lid Matching Game

[15 Minutes]

Young children love boxes. Take a few boxes with lids and make a fun matching game you and your child can enjoy together.

You'll need:

• an assortment of different shapes and sizes of boxes and lids • an assortment of small toys or objects

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to remove the lids from the boxes. Mix up the boxes and lids.
  2. Encourage him to match the lid to the box of the right size.
  3. As you play the game, talk about the biggest box and the smallest box, and the shapes of the boxes.
  4. Talk about the shape of the lids for the boxes, for example, square, rectangle, circle.
  5. Challenge your child to put one object or a small toy in each box. Can he find items that fit in each one? Can he find two items that fit in one box? Can he find three items that fit in one box?

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Which box is your favorite? Why?
  • Can you put two toys in any of the boxes? Three? Show me.
