My Summer

My Summer

[25 Minutes]

Introduce journal writing to your child. Summer vacation brings many activities and adventures to write about!

You'll need:

• paper • notebook • pencil or pen • crayons

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to make a journal. Help him put pieces of paper in a ring binder. This will allow him to add more pages.
  2. If he wishes, he can decorate the cover or decorate a piece of construction paper and glue it on the cover.
  3. Talk with your child about daily activities and special weekends. Invite him to write about his day in his journal notebook. For example: What did you like best about today? What new thing did you do or learn? Is there anything that happened today that you would change?
  4. Challenge your child to illustrate his daily entries.
  5. Invite your child to read his entries to you aloud. However, if he wants to keep them private, that's OK. Encourage him to tell you about the best things that happened to him this summer.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Are you going many new places this summer? What has been your favorite place so far?
  • What is your favorite summer activity?
