Reversible Art

Reversible Art

[20 Minutes]

Talk about opposites as you explore this art activity that is wet and dry and sunny and rainy.

You'll need:

• coffee filters • water • markers • spray bottle (optional)

What to do:

  1. On a rainy day encourage your child to draw with markers on coffee filters. Comment on the colors and her use of space - inside, edge, together, apart.
  2. On the next sunny day, take the pictures outside and sprinkle or spray them with water.
  3. Talk about what happens as the water works its magic This "reversible art" started on a rainy day is completed on a sunny day. It starts as a dry project and turns to a wet one and then back to dry.

How to use:

When dry, use the coffee filters for another project like making flowers or decorating toilet tube puppets.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What happened to the colors when you sprayed on the water?
  • What are some of the differences between a sunny day and a rainy day? What kind of day do you like better?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and an understanding of "cause and effect".
